Montague Crescent — Double-Storey Extension
Brentwood, Essex
Project Overview
A substantial double-storey rear extension to a 1920s Arts and Crafts detached home, adding 85m² of living space. The ground floor houses a vast open-plan kitchen-diner with 5m bi-fold doors opening onto a landscaped terrace, while the first floor provides a new master suite with dressing room and en-suite featuring Porcelanosa wall-hung sanitaryware and Italian marble tiling.
Obstacles We Overcame
Matching the original 1920s clay roof tiles and decorative timber bargeboards. Steel beam installation through an occupied first floor.
How We Solved It
Sourced reclaimed clay tiles from a specialist yard in Kent. Engineered a lifting sequence that allowed the 4.8m universal beam to be installed without decanting the family.
Project Photography
“It doesn't feel like an extension — it feels like the house was always meant to be this way. The joiners matched the original Arts and Crafts detailing perfectly.”
